Over forty players played in a four ball better ball format and the day was greatly enjoyed by all. The emphasis for the day was always about participation and enjoyment rather than fierce competition. There is no question that the event exceeded the expectations of all who played. Basildon is owned by Golf Features editor Colin Jenkins, who is also heavily involved with the UK Golf Federation. He made the following comments:
“We want to host events which increase the number of happy golfers visiting and re-visiting our course. This is the first of many such days that we shall run at Basildon and there will be many others scheduled around the country. Four ball better ball is the most popular format for people playing golf socially and we wanted to give everybody a good day out so they could enjoy the course and each other’s company, rather than find who was the best player out of the group. Our greenkeepers combined perfectly with our clubhouse team to ensure that everyone had a great day. The weather was marvellous too. Events such as this are really important to all clubs and courses, as they bind our customers together socially, which is great fun and helpful to the business.”
The UK Golf Federation was set up by the UKGCOA to ensure that more golfers had easier access to welcoming clubs. All of the previous work by the UKGCOA will continue under the UK Golf Federation, but with an even stronger focus. Any golf course or range can join the UK Golf Federation and it’s completely free to be listed as a venue. For those wishing to give greater support to the new Federation, they can join as a premium member for £180 plus VAT per annum. For this they will gain access to board members, and free entry to all UK Golf Federation trade events.
Doug Poole was recently appointed as Chief Executive of the new Federation and he will be using his contacts and driving the new organisation to offer even greater benefits to golf facilities and individual golfers.
