Golf is indeed a global game and the various locations can make for fascinating outcomes. Royal Greens is located in Saudi Arabia and just recently opened. Owned by King Abdullah Economic City, the Troon managed facility has its own membership but is open to visitors.
    In January, the first ever European Tour event to take place in Saudi Arabia will occur. The event is yet to be named.
    The only hole to be located on the Red Sea is the stunning par-3 16th. The hole can play anywhere from 120 to 180 yards, but the challenges go far beyond the close proximity to the water hugging the hole so nearby.
    Those playing in the morning period may find a docile situation. However, the prevailing wind comes from the westerly direction and this can mean issues for golfer’s attempting to find the elusive target. In blustery conditions it’s not uncommon to start one’s shot from the tee over the water.
    The green is quite massive – just under 15,000 square feet. But what adds to the drama is the extended narrowness of the putting surface. There is room to bailout to the right, but two menacing bunkers will need to be avoided. Securing a par becomes quite challenging when approach shots from the tee fail to find the target.
